Museum of Mountain Guiding

150 years of mountain guiding tradition are preserved under the roofs of St. Niklaus, called “Zaniglas” in the local Valais dialect.

Description

150 years of mountain guiding tradition are preserved under the roofs of St. Niklaus, called “Zaniglas” in the local Valais dialect. The only mountain guiding museum in the whole world can be found in the Meier tower, the oldest building in the Nikolai valley that is still standing. The museum tells the story of the Alps and in particular of the Zaniglas mountain guiding pioneers who were prominent from 1850 and played a significant international role in mountain guiding in a wide range of fields. Zaniglas mountain pioneers were the centre of worldwide attention with their first ascents. Accompany us on a journey back to the time of these Alpine pioneers. Feel what it was, and still is, like to live and work as a mountain guide.

Tours for groups and associations on request at the tourist office of St. Niklaus
